Greek Local Food

SOUVLAKI KALAMAKI: Souvlaki is one of the most basic fast food dishes in Greece. It is a dish with pieces of meat skewered on a skewer, slightly larger than copshish. It is eaten with half a lemon squeezed on top and is usually served with French fries and a slightly thicker pita bread.

GYROS: Known as Greek döner, gyros has similar characteristics to Turkish döner. It is served just like in Turkey, with garnishes such as rice, pita and tomatoes.

SAGANAKİ: The literal meaning of saganaki is ‘pan’ and it can have many ingredients. However, it is in your best interest not to come without trying shrimp saganaki in tomato sauce, cheese saganaki eaten only with lemon, and cheese saganaki wrapped in yufka and sweetened with honey.

GREEK SALAD: When you sit down to eat in Greece, salad is a must. This light salad stars onion and feta cheese, while other ingredients include lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and olive oil.

GEMİSTA: A dish made with rice, spices and sometimes minced meat inside bell peppers, tomatoes or zucchini.
